Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman

Geoffrey Whitworth Youth Group presents Metamorphoses

Based on one of the most influential poems ever written, inspiring Shakespeare, Chaucer and countless others, Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The epic poem, containing over 250 myths, is reimagined by Mary Zimmerman who won the Tony award for best direction for this production. This play captures those ancient myths and breathes new life into them. Showing the creation of human nature through tales of love, loss and mischief. Poetically written, with a contemporary edge, Metamorphoses tells a mix of well-known myths with some more obscure ones from Ovid’s beloved poem. These timeless stories weave together the perfect tapestry of hilarity, romance and misery all against the backdrop of the most human thing of all, change. Change and transformation in all senses of the word, with absurdity and riotousness. There is a reason these stories have been told for over 2000 years.
