What belongs on Townlet

• Independent shops, makers, cafés and artisan producers.
• Pubs, including chain pubs and pubs owned by breweries or pub groups.
• Markets, fairs, festivals and community events open to the public.
• Hidden gems: the places locals send visitors to, not the obvious chains.

Pubs are welcome regardless of chain ownership. For other businesses, we don't list national chains, MLM schemes, adult services, or anything that exists mainly to generate leads rather than serve a town.

Where our data comes from

Townlet UK contains four types of information, and we aim to be clear about which is which:

• Editorial listings — These are written and checked by the Townlet team. We've personally visited many of these places or verified them through reliable local knowledge.
• Validated open-data records — We import records from public sources like the Food Standards Agency (FSA), OpenStreetMap, and GeoNames to help you find local essentials. These are automatically validated for consistency but are not individually visited or reviewed by our team. See our data sources for details.
• Community submissions — Suggestions from our members. These are held for human review before they are published to ensure they meet our standards.
• Claimed business information — Information supplied or updated by the business owner or staff. We verify these connections via email before granting a "Verified Owner" badge.

Regardless of the source, please tell us when something changes — opening hours, a move, or a business that has closed. Use Report a problem on any listing page.

Small Tables

Small Tables are member-hosted social gatherings: sharing a meal, meeting for coffee or enjoying a relaxed catch-up together. Each needs a host, a date, a public venue and a small number of places that people can join. A restaurant, private dining room, catering service or general club listing is not a Small Table. Hosts create their own invitations; directory imports do not create gatherings.

• Small Tables meet in public venues only — independent businesses, community venues or public places. Never private homes.
• Hosts set the group size and may approve guests before confirming a place.
• No money changing hands through Townlet. Everyone pays for their own food and drink.
• Chat is for arranging the meet-up. You can block a member or report a table at any time, and we act on reports.
• Small Tables are for adults. Please be on time, and cancel early if plans change.

How we behave here

Be warm and be useful. No harassment, discrimination, spam, or dumping other people's personal details into a listing or chat. We remove content and accounts that make Townlet a worse place to be local.
