Geoffrey Whitworth Theatre presents The Entertainer by John Osborne
The Entertainer is one of John Osborne’s most enduring plays. Set against the backdrop of the Suez Crisis, it follows Archie Rice, a failing music hall performer whose world is beginning to unravel, both on stage and at home. As personal tensions deepen and national decline presses in, the play becomes a compelling portrait of a man, a family and a country all struggling to hold themselves together. Archie’s desperate charm, restless energy and faltering act sit at the centre of a drama charged with wit, tension and theatrical bite. Sharp, gripping and richly layered, The Entertainer is powerful, deeply theatrical drama that still speaks with force, drawing audiences into a world of performance and pressure that keeps you gripped from first moment to last.
